windows server 2008 bare metal recovery
Hi All
I used window server backup tool to backup my (TMG) server (Windows Server 2008 R2) and then I did restore that image to new and different (DELL R610) hardware.
After restoring image windows server would not able to load properly, its looklike its trying to boot windows buts ends up with blue screen and then restart.
I did repeat the same step with fresh backup image but didn't work and also try to repair boot file but not working
Any idea
Thanks

Rikshaw,
Sorry I do not have a solution for you I just have the same problem. I am on different hardware then you but I am trying to do a BMR of my server to new "bare metal." I know that the OS is good because if I put the drives back in the old hardware it boots
without issue and I am able to make a BMR backup. My situation is that I need to move this server from one building that has space for a rack server to a building that only has room for a desktop. None of my hardware has failed so thats good, I just dont want
to reinstall / configure my server.

Hello there folks, I have used and done "bare metal backup and recovery" process before. Worked fine all the times I did it. The key was you had to have identical hardware, down to the PERC controllers and memeory in the server. Otherwise
you will get big problems with the device drivers going nuts, and trying to "lay new drivers" over the old ones is not a viable route.
