Yes, you can rename the administrator account. The rename should not affect anything because the account's SID value will remain the same. There are a couple of ways you can rename the account: Rename a local user account : Applies To: Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 Administrators is the minimum group membership required to complete this procedure. Review the details in "Additional considerations" in this topic. To rename a local user account 1. Open Computer Management. 2. In the console tree, click Users. Where? Computer Management\System Tools\Local Users and Groups\Users 3. Right-click the user account that you want to rename, and then click Rename. 4. Type the new user name, and then press ENTER. Configure it via your Local Security Policy: Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Local Policies > Security Options > Accounts: Rename administrator account You can also use the above method if you wish to rename the local administrator account on domain computers by applying the above settings to a GPO and linking it to an OU that contains the computer objects.
