windows 2008 user access over the internet
Hello,I am looking at deploying a 2008 solution for my 10 user company. The main purpose and focus of this would be to allow users to connect over the internet into the server to sync stuff like thier documents, etc.I know they will be roaming domains but what else do I need?Do I need Terminal Services?I am not looking to share any apps just to sync up the files automatically when they connect via vpn.Client Machines arewindows xp proThank you,DL

As long as the client are using a VPN client to securly attach to the internal network, then you don't need to do anything special to allow clients access to file shares, provided proper network and firewall configuration.Jeff Schertz, PointBridge | MVP | MCITP: Enterprise Messaging

So this would allow the user to connect to the domain?I would like it to be just like they are logging in on the local network but over the internet. The microsoft help said I needed terminal services which greatly adds to the cost of the deployment plan. Thanks,DL

Yeah.Best way to do this is to buy newor use the firewall you have now and it's VPN-capabilities.So you install VPN-clients to the workstations and when they start their work, they use that VPN-client to establish connection to your companys firewall and after that get access to that network. When the VPN connection have been made, it is quite same if that very workstation would be physically connected to that network :)If you can make that VPN, only thing you have to buy are user-CAL's to those workstations.Actually, if you just open RDP connections to your server, i dont know how you could get those files synced.Henry Eklf :: Just one random IT-guy more.
