windows 2008 server, the web and SQL server 2005

Hopefully someone can clear this up for me. I have read different things and need to verify this info. I am in need of two new servers and we are looking at making them windows 2008 servers only because we have a security issue between our current domain control on windows 2008 and the security within windows 2003.

I addition i want to run a website and intranet applications which run off of SQL Server. I understand that Windows 2008 web server is the only server that will allow the installation of SQL server and the running of web sites and apps on the same server, is this true???

If i dont get the Windows 2008 Web server and purchase the Standard edition, must i purchase another Standard edition and another server just for SQL server ???

Must i buythree servers instead of 2 to accomplish what i used to be able to do with only 1 server (mind you it was not the fastest server in the world but it worked)

Someone please clarify this muddy water in whichwe call the Windows 2008 server catalog.

HELP!!!

This is not true.

You can install Microsoft SQL Server and Internet Information Services (IIS) on top of Standard, Enterprise and Datacenter editions as well, without any problems. Windows Web Server howeverrecently gota new licensing model, which makes it more cost-efficient thanthe othereditions (in authenticated scenarios) because there's no need to buy Client Access Licenses (CALs) for it. Hi Talind, What Sander said is right. For the further concern about the purchasing license, please call 1-800-426-9400 (select option 4), Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. (PST) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist. You can also use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing Sites http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/index/worldwide.asp to find contact information. Hope it helps.

Hi Mr.David,

Thank you for the reply. I found that you are the right person to ask my question.

I'm planning to build a local website which serves to the small business/companies for posting their job ads.

So, In order to build this website, I need to know what resources do I need & the software to purchase.

Basically, I'm little bit fluent in HTML. But the very important thing I need to know is,

Is Web server is needed for my project or An SQL server itself is enough for my project? Because when user post data in my website, the data need to get stored in a database right. So just wondering a SQL Server is needed? Also, it's expected that my website will handle a average of 10,000 webpages adding or deleting everyday.

Of course Im going to build my Webpage in HTML5 only. So what server do I need to purchase.

I have already got SQL SERVER 2008 installed in my windows OS.

Please reply me on this query.

Thanks in advance.
