windows 2008 r2 64 bit hangs ...
Hi All, i've installed Windows 2008 R2 64 bit enterprise edition, build 7600 onto virtualbox 4.0.0. (since the initial posting), i've installed SP1; the build is now 7601. the guest will hang at different times of the day, and i cannot (actually don't know where to look for problems) find where the problem is. while looking at the "Event Viewer", it appears that before the system hangs, there is a Kernel-General event logged, indicating that the system time has been adjusted. the most recent hang, occurred a few minutes after the time was adjusted. the previous hang, occurred right after the system time was adjusted (within the same minute). i had thought it may be due to virtualbox time mechanism, but i have another windows guest (2003 64bit) on the same virtualbox, which does not exhibit this problem. (in fact, 2003 does not seem to report any time adjustments at all).. has anybody experienced hangs on windows 2008, whether or not it is due to time adjustments (i understand it may not even be the adjustments, the events seem to happen quite closely together).. any advise and assistance very much appreciated, thanks in advance, sam

Hi, Thanks for the post. First of all, please verify if this issue will occur in Clean Boot Mode. Clean Boot ============= Let's disable all startup items and third party services when booting. This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service. Please perform the following steps: 1. Click "Start", go to "Run", and type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in the open box to start the System Configuration Utility. 2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". 4. Click "OK" to restart your computer to Selective Startup environment. 5. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK. 6. Check whether or not the issue still appears in this environment. Note: Temporarily disabling the Startup Group only prevents the startup programs from loading at startup. This shouldn't affect the system or other programs. We may still manually run these programs later. If the problem still exists, please contact VirtualBox to check if there is any known issue with Win 2k8R2 and VirtualBox. Thanks Miles. the problem happens not during bootup, so it is probably not a startup issue ? sometimes it happens after a few days, when all the services properly had been running for sometime ... on the host OS (opensolaris), using various tools, i can see that the virtual machine is still running, just that the 2008.64 server is frozen. i've posted the question onto virtualbox, but there hasn't been any replies yet -- is there something in the event logs that may be helpful ? if so, perhaps, i can post the log for expert analysis ? i'll go through the links suggested, to see if there is some more info i can extract from the incident. Thanks again, sam

Hello, I am having exactly the same issue described in the question, on the same host OS. ssgam - can you please update if you found a solution, or maybe a workaround to the issue? Thanks, arie.
