windows 2003 R2 sp1 x64
I have installed my first Windows 2003 Standard server R2 x64 sp1 server. I am hoping to benefit from the extended memory usage compared to x86. The install went through smoothly. However, it seems that the applications that I am installing are causing an issue. A inventory progam needs to have IIS set to run in 32bit mode. An archiving program that I need to install also needs to have .Net 1.1 installed.I am aware that .Net 1.1 also is a 32bit program. So it seemed to be a miracle that both these programs would run IIS in 32bit mode without causing a conflict. However, the issue is that now I must run SQL in 32bit mode. When I tried installing SQL x64bit mode it complained about reporting services needing IIS in 64bit mode. Then I tried to install Sharepoint services 3.0 x64 and it gave me an error stating that I needed to have .net 2.0 in allow mode in IIS. Which it is, but is set to 32bit mode because of my inventory program. I don't even know at this point if I can run Sharepoint Services 3.0 32bit mode on a Windows Server 2003 x64.However, I am now wondering:With IIS, SQL, Sharepoint Services 3.0 running in 32bit mode, is it even worth having x64 installed or should I reimage backto x86? If I keep everythingrunning in 32bit, will I even get the benefit of the memory expansion of a x64 OS?Any advice/information would be appreciated.

Hi, At this situation, I am afraid that you cannot install SQL Server on the computer. You may install all these applications on a 32bit system or install SQL Server and SharePoint on another computer. The root cause is that your inventory program needs to have IIS set to run in 32bit mode. If you would like to run all programs in a 64bit system, I suggest obtaining an inventory program which can be used with IIS in 64bit mode. Thank you for your response. I guess my next step is to try and get another server and run SQL and Sharepoint separately from the applications. Or just reimage the server to 32bit mode.
