where to store ntds file
Hi
I just migrated a dc from win2000 to 2008 R2 Foundation. Demoted the W2k. Then, I read in the posts that having 2 DC's, DNS's for fault tolerance is encouraged. Now, if I were to promote the W2k as additional DC, where would I save the ntds file? Same file
as 2008 R2 or a different file altogether, where both the DCs will replicate?
Many thanks in advance for your advice

Hello,
the ntds.dit file is located on each DC in the system folders and the content of it is replicated to other DCs according to the replication topology. There is not a single ntds.dit file that is used from all DCs, if that is your concern.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.
