vss system writer - cant add?
Hi: I've been trying to get the vss writer to show up or enable, but cant seem to get working! I tried the Info from Article ID: 2009272 "System state backup using Windows Server Backup fails with error: System writer is not found in the backup." no luck. I tried the steps listed in forum: "VSS System Writer is missing" - by booting up with a clean computer then running the takeown steps, and still no luck! Can some one help with something I might have missed... Thanks, James james luceros

Hello James, I haven't had that issue on Server which is a part of work group. You might want to try following however, I am not sure whether that would work Takeown /f %windir%\winsxs\temp\PendingRenames /a icacls %windir%\winsxs\temp\PendingRenames /grant "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(RX)" icacls %windir%\winsxs\temp\PendingRenames /grant "server1\Administrators:(RX) icacls %windir%\winsxs\temp\PendingRenames /grant "server1\Users:(RX) icacls %windir%\winsxs\temp\PendingRenames /grant "NT Service\trustedinstaller:(F)" icacls %windir%\winsxs\temp\PendingRenames /grant BUILTIN\Users:(RX) Takeown /f %windir%\winsxs\filemaps\* /a icacls %windir%\winsxs\filemaps\*.* /grant "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(RX)" icacls %windir%\winsxs\filemaps\*.* /grant "NT Service\trustedinstaller:(F)" icacls %windir%\winsxs\filemaps\*.* /grant BUILTIN\Users:(RX) net stop cryptsvc && net start cryptsvc net stop vss && net start vss net stop Winmgmt && net start Winmgmt Thanks Press any key... What the ... Where's any key ? This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights. About Me ?
