volmgr event volume identification
Hello, I have a Windows 2008 Datacenter server that has started to throw event 57, source volmgr, in the System event log. The details reference \Device\HardDiskVolume3 Does this refer to what Diskpart calls volume 3, or to what diskpart calls Disk 3, or something else entirely? Any suggestions for how to diagnose? thanks! Martin

Hello Martin,
Based on the research, \Device\HardDiskVolume3 is actually a SymoblicLink to a existing volume on the server. We can use WinObj.exe to reveal to where thissymbolic link points to.1. Open WinOBJ 2. Expand GLOBAL?? container3. Order by Symlink column4. Locate \Device\HarddiskVolume3
5. Find the volume in the Name columnDownload WinObj

We may not use Diskpart to identify the volume in this case because the Diskpart is not accurate like WinObj.exe.
Hope this can be helpful.

Unfortunately I don't remember anything about the actual problem. You are probably best off posting a new question with a description of your environment and error(s).
