user logon
I have just installed Windows Server 2003 R2. This is my first Windows Server butI have previous experience with Netware. The new server is up and running. I have created a group and a user. My problem is, how do I log in from a client workstation? My previous Netware experiencehas beento install the Netware Client software on the workstation and then I get a login screen - it sees the server, tree, etc. and the user can login. On the new Widows network, I havechecked the network connections on a new workstation and made sure it is running the Client for Microsoft Networks. But when I restart the computer there is no option for loging in to the new server. I feel like this should be very simple but I am obviously missing something. My objective for switching to a Windows server was to streamline user login - with a Netware server and all clients running xp pro there was always a double login situation. I was hoping that with a Windows server the server and client workstaitons would communicate with one user login. Anyway, at this point I would just be happy to have a workstation see the server and ask for a login.

To be able to login to the server you have two choices: 1) create local user accounts on the server for every user, or 2) make the server a domain controller by running "dcpromo" on the server. I have a netware backround also and love Windows domains. Once you get it up and running I think you will be very happy. Just do a google search for "dcpromo", you should be able to find some step by step goudes to walk you through the process. aaron

The XP machine need to join the domain. If you need more information, please visit the Windows Server 2003 R2 newsgroups found here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/community/newsgroups/default.mspx.
