unable to join domain
I've installed server 2008 r2 and hyper-v server on vmware. I've created a domain on the server, but I can't get hyper-v server to join for some reason. I'm able to ping the dc. I have disabled the firewall on both servers
any ideas?

What about name resolution ? Are the DNS adresses correctly configured on the Hyperv Server? What is the output of nslookup? Please post an ipconfig from the DNS/Domain Controller and from the HyperV server. What is the error message ? What do the event
logs show?MCTS - Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

I just tried joining the domain with my win 7 vm and it doesn't work either so there's an issue with the dc
found this in event logs
Name resolution for the name 188.1.168.192.in-addr.arpa timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.
ipconfig from dc

Try to check IP configuration settings once again in Win 7 VM, if you use static IP addressing. Make
sure that you configured it correctly and make an entry of DNS server IP manually.
Check once mutual Ping responses at both ends ( DC & Win7). Also suggest you disable IPV6.

servers responded.
Use NSLOOKUP command and make sure that your DNS server work properly. Also restart NETLOGON service in DC server
and try to add win7 VM to domain.
Finally, since it is virtual environment, make sure that both VM
network adapater type can be in host-only mode.
Please feel free to post again if you need any other help?

Hello,
NEVER join the Hyper-V server to a domain. This system provides the hypervisor and and should for security reason and performance ALWAYS run as single server role.
Also keep in mind that if you have to reboot the Hyper-V server how should it contact the domain DNS server if this run on the VM that is also shutdown as the Hyper-V server is NOT started at the time???
So installl Hyper-V NEVER as domain member, use it as VMWare ESX/ESXi as the system providing the hypervisor and thats it.
I NEVER have seen somebody to add the VMWare hypervisor to a domain, so why will you do this with Microsoft hypervisor?
