unable to copy profiles
Hi All,
I'm having a trnge problem on sme of my servers, and hopw you can help me out here.
ther servers are windows 2003 sp2 (some of them are windows 2003 X64 r2).
The problem is that i want to copy the profile of the local administrator, to a new profile i created (which is going to be memeber of the local administrators group).
So, after creating the new user, and adding him to the administrators group,(and logging to the server with domain admin), i'm goint to my computer - > properties -> advanced -> user profiles -> settings -> i'm selecting he profile that i want
to copy, and i see that the copy to is grey.
Hope you can help me resolve this issue, to be able to copy the user profiles.
Best regards,
Nahum.

Hi Nahum,
If the user account was logged in before copying the profile, the user profile cannot be copied.
Please try to reboot the server and then log in as the other user who is granted Administrator right. Copy the user profile again.

Hi Terry,
For this matter the new user that i want to be an administrator on the server was only logged in once (after i created the user account and add it to the administrator groups i logged in once with the new user account, and logged back out to let the windows
create the new user account).
After that i looged on to the server with domain admin account (and just a reminder i want to copy the local administrator account to the new user local account i created because we are going to disable the administrator account in our organisation
and use a diffrent name).
After i'm logging to the server with the domain admin acocunt all i want to do , is to copy the local administrator account profile, to the new administrator account that i just created.
Hope that now the situation is much clear then in my 1st post.
Best rergards,
Nahum.

If the user logged in prior to copying the profile a folder with his account name should be created under docs&settings. As a workaround you can also manually copy the user profile content to the new profile-
To copy files to the new user profile do this-
=============
1.
Log on as a user other than the user whose profile you are copying files to or from.
2.
In Windows Explorer, click
Tools, click Folder Options, click the
View tab, click Show hidden files and folders, click to clear the
Hide protected operating system files check box, and then click
OK.
3.
Locate the
C:\Documents and Settings\Old_Username folder, where
C is the drive on which Windows XP is installed, and Old_Username is the name of the profile you want to copy user data from.
4.
Press and hold down the CTRL key while you click each file and subfolder in this folder, except the following files:
Ntuser.datNtuser.dat.logNtuser.ini
5.
On the
Edit menu, click Copy.
6.
Locate the
C:\Documents and Settings\New_Username folder, where
C is the drive on which Windows XP is installed, and New_Username is the name of the user profile that you created in the "Create a New User Profile" section.
7.
On the
Edit menu, click Paste.
8.
Log off the computer, and then log on as the new user.
