time syncronization
Thank you in advance for any assistance you are able to provide. I have a number of 2003 domain servers and XP domain clients which are still trying to grab time from a couple Novell servers. What is the best way to eliminate the servers and clients from continuing to reach out to the Novell servers for time synchronization? I've seen a number of registry entries, but am unsure if I can safely get rid of them. In the client event logs i'm seeing valid time sync to the new windows server in the domain they were recently joined to, but also failures because they can't find the Novell server. Thank you.

Hi gamichaels Probably the safest way is to configure the settings using Group Policy. That way it doesn't overwrite any existing registry settings and you can trial it on a subset of users before rolling out to a wider population. Ensure that the Type value is set to NT5DS, as this is what instructs the local NTP client to use Windows domain-based time synchronisation. The registry values are described in details here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/223184?p=1 You can find a description of the Group Policy settings here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773263(WS.10).aspx#w2k3tr_times_tools_vwtt Tony

Hi, You can refer to the "Configuring the Windows Time service to use an external time source" section of the KB article 816042 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816042) to have the PDC synchronize its time from the Novell server. And then, as Tony stated, set the value of the Type registry entry to NT5DS on other Windows operating system in the domain.
