the processor doesn't support SLAT

I set up Server 2016 TP3 without gui.

Tried to install Hyper-V feature and got a message:

install-windowsfeature : A prerequisite check for the Hyper-V feature failed.
1. Hyper-V cannot be installed: The processor does not support second level address translation (SLAT).
At line:1 char:1
+ install-windowsfeature hyper-v -restart

I installed 2016 on my test box on which I wiped out Server 2012 R2 running Hyper-v.

The machine is Quad Core.

I believe that Hyper-V of 2012 required SLAT... because could not install Hyper-on on laptop running Windows 8.1 (and the message was about no SLAT).

Hyper-V Server 2012 didn't require SLAT, But Windows 8.x Hyper-V did.

Now, all the server version does too.

If you have a Core 2 Quad core, you don't have SLAT.

Hyper-V 2012 R2 did not require SLAT / EPT.   Windows 8.1 did.

Wdinows 10 / Server 2016 requires it (there is no way around the requirement).

Run coreinfo.exe with the -v swtich to see if your system supports it.

I was ready to put my both labs machines into the garbage...

But just got an idea that I can install back 2012 and test 2016 and it's NANO.

Wanted to see NANO on bare metall...

Thanks!

You should still be able to install nano on bare metal.

Just cannot add Hyper-V to nano.

sure... 2016 is installed without any problem. it is Hyper-V part that needs SLAT.

and Hyper-V in Nano should be cool...
