setting values in HKCU in security templates - can it be done and how?
I am working a project where we have been asked to try and set the on\off values for the following registry items: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop\ScreenSaverIsSecureHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\screenSaveActiveWe have been asked to see if this can be done via a plain security.inf template file like they have used for setting ACL's on a directory(not through GPO's). I have looked around theNet and it seems that all the examplesI find are for the Local Machine Hive. Does anyone know if this can be done and if sohow it can be done (the actual syntax would be most helpful whereas we are editing via wordpad)?Thank you forany help.

Hi, I am afraid not. Security template is used to define the registry key permission but not used to modify the registry value. Actually, the best practice to manage those registry values is to use Group Policy. Those entries correspond to the Password protect the screen saver and Activate Screen Saver Group Policies (User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Display). ScreenSaverIsSecure http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows2000serv/reskit/regentry/93258.mspx?mfr=true ScreenSaveActive http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows2000serv/reskit/regentry/93258.mspx?mfr=true Alternatively, you can use registration entries (.reg) file: How to add, modify, or delete registry subkeys and values by using a registration entries (.reg) file http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310516 Hope the information is helpful.
