set virtual network
Hi Iam trying to start learning sharepoint 2007.I have installed Virtual Server 2005 and Added a virtual machine with windows 2003 I created using Virtual PC before. The problem is I don't know how to install programs like sharepoint to the virtual machine without a CD (From my physical machine). Another problem I have followed a video tutorial from the internet to set the virtual network but it didn't work as expected(I am not able to connect to the internet). When I try to open a website I get an error something like :cannot open search page. As the tutorial said I have used ipconfig in the command prompt then copy the default gateway and the DNSto the new Virtual Network settings.Could any one explain these issues for me please?.I am too late but i will never give up

If you do not have sharepoint server on a cd, what form is it in? If it is an ISO file, you simply attach it to the cd/dvd drive of the vm from the admin website. How does the host machine connect to the network? The method you have described should work if the host machine is on a LAN connecting to a router and the virtual network is linked to the physical NIC in the host. When you look in the admin website, what is the virtual network called?Bill

My labtop is not in a LAN network connected to a router.I connect to the internet using my mobilecard internet service.Does this mean it is impossible to connect in the virtual machine to the internet?About installing I copied a sharepoint DVD to my labtop to install from. But sharepoint is not the only setup I want to install. Many other installations I want to make from my physical drive to the virtual machine like Framework 3.0 I downloaded from the internet. If I could at least compy the setup files to the virtual machine it will make every thing easy.Is it impossible to copy from the physical machine drive(C for example) to the virtual machine?About the virtual netwok I created I called itSharePointPractice it has the following adapter:Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller I am too late but i will never give up

In that case, you will have to use some form of connection sharing to get out to the Internet just as you would to let a second physical machine share your connection. With the current setup you could only connect to machines which were connected to a LAN through the Broadcom NIC. I would get rid of that network (since it won't do anything for you) and install a virtual network connected to a loopback adapter (see Virtual Server help for details on this) and connect your vm to the loopback adapter network. How you share your network connection depends on what OS you are running in the host. If you are using a client OS your only built-in option is ICS. Search help on the host for connection sharing. When you enable ICS, select your mobile connection as the connection to be shared and the loopback adapter as the private interface. With ICS set up, the server will get its network config from ICS and be able to share its Internet connection. You may have to manually configure the DNS address in the guest to point to 192.168.0.1 (which is the loopback adapter). A server OS doesn't like working with ICS sometimes. Bill
