server spontaneous reboots
I manage a site where their server (Windows 2000 Server) does spontaneous reboots for no reason. This happens at various time during the day. Has anyone experienced this problem? If so, what is the cause? Thanks, Paul

This forum is for Windows Server 2008. No events in the event log? Check recently installed drivers / software. Check memory banks and/or harddrives. Check PSU. That's about what I can give you without more facts

Joachim, thanks for the reply. No drivers or software was recently installed. In the Event Viewer I noticed this error message at the time of the reboots: Application POPUP: OUTLOOK .EXE Application error The instructions at "0x10003100" referenced memory at "0x10003100". The memory could not be "read" Application POPUP: Adobe Acrobat: AcroRd32.exe Application error The instructions at "0x24002bcb" referenced memory at "0x24002bcb ". The memory could not be "read" Thank you, Paul Also, shouldI move this post to another area?

A qualified guess would be that the memory module/s are faulty. Change either one at the time until you find which one, or all the memory at once to new ones. If it still doesn't work we'll take it from there.

The office manager discovered this item. The workstation logon dialog boxes presented the option for the users to logoff, restart, or shutdown. If the user chose any option other than logoff, the server got restarted or shutdown. She traced the problem to a constant server shutdown around 5:00 pm daily. She has since advised all employees to only choose "logoff", and it has seemed to stop. I did reseat the memory, and other cards attached to the M/B. Thank you for the advise. Paul
