server slowness
Hi Guys, I just want to ask if the cause of the slowness of our server is due to 2 processors in the server but only 8gb memory, i'm thinking that because the minimum requirement of a sharepoint 2010 environment is 8gb memory, so we should add additional 8gb memory to our server since it has two processors? Thanks.

Hi, Thank for your post. Generally speaking, bottlenecks occur when a resource reaches its capacity, causing the performance of the entire system to slow down. Bottlenecks are typically caused by insufficient or misconfigured resources, malfunctioning components, and incorrect requests for resources by a program. There are five major resource areas that can cause bottlenecks and affect server performance: physical disk, memory, process, CPU, and network. To address your problem, you'd better use performance monitor to assist you in diagnosing the problem. Using Performance Monitor: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc749115.aspx Taking Your Server's Pulse: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2008.08.pulse.aspx Best Regards, James

In addition to James and Syed. You can check the optimize performance on SP2010. Yes, your correct Minimum requirement of RAM for SP 2010 is 8GB. If your are using MOSS then it also needs more RAM multiple of 4 ie., 32GB. For sharepoint queries you can post on Sharepoint forum. Thanks
