Microsoft's Security Compliance Manager (SCM) is a good place to start. It includes all of the recommendations from the Microsoft Security Guide (which SCM has replaced). SCM has baselines for a broad range of products including Windows Server,
Windows 7, Internet Explorer, and Exchange Server. Included in SCM are documents such as the "Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Attack Surface Reference" and the "Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Security Guide" (324 pages by itself). You can open and read
the documents from within SCM. You can also use SCM to deploy policies.
