server editions of sql server and specialised editions of sql server

hi,

iam new to sql server. i have started reading an article in MSDN regarding the editions of sql server.the article says with the different headings as "server editions of sql server 2008r2" which includes (datacenter,standard and eneterprise) and where as other one "specialsed editions of sql server 2008r2" includes(sql server developer, sql server web,sql server workgroup,sql server express ,sql server express with tools etc..). 

here my question is ,what is the difference between these headings.could anyone explain to me? thank you...!!

The difference lies in features they support and provide. Not all editions of SQL Server provide every capability of database. Like express edition has limit of 10 G database, 1G memory 1 CPU. Standard edition cannot use Partition etc. To get list of features supported please read below BOL article
