server 2008 very slow shutdown
I have a test server 2008 (standard x64) and it takes between 20-30 min to shut down. This problem is evident on different hardware as well. Both machines are S5000 based chipsets but one is an intel the other is a supermicro.I have no roles installed the only software I have installed is scvmm 2008 andAdaptec storage manager. If the problem should be ASM this would be bad because I would have no control over mydisks. This problem does not happen on my hyper-v only servers (same hardware as full install)Edit:A little more digging has come up with "Windows Clean Shutdown" a new "feature" of windows 2008. This is all well and good but when you need to restart a machine 20-30 min. is unacceptable. Does anyone know if you can bypass this or do something a bit different?Any help would be great.

Hi,Slow shut down may occur if some users connect to the server or some resource was not released in time. Please try the following hotfix first. The shutdown process becomes very slow when there is an active connection during shutdown on a Windows Vista-based or Windows Server 2008-based computerhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/957526 If the issue persists, I suggest we try to reduce the value of WaitToKillServiceTimeout to test. Run "regedit" and navigate to the following location to find WaitToKillServiceTimeout: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\WaitToKillServiceTimeout Also, lets test in Safe Mode.1. Restart the computer, press F8 at startup process. 2. Select Safe Mode, press Enter.3. Log into the system and try to restart. If the issue persists, we may have to repair Windows files. If the issue doesnt occur, it indicates the system files are working fine. This issue may be caused by third party driver, please help to collect a list a unsigned drivers: Click Start, type "Sigverif", save the log file to local drive and send a copy to tfwst@microsoft.com for research. System Information is also very helpful, please run "msinfo32" to collect and send a copy to tfwst@microsoft.com. Thanks.
