server 2008 upgrade to server 2008 r2, is it simple?
Hi Just had a quick question. I believe this is possible but just wanted to check, we need to get 2008 installed on our new servers quickly, I was hoping to wait till r2 came out and install that instead but because time is not on our side I think I am going to have to install 2008. Can I ask if its a simple upgrade to r2 if say we installed x64 version of windows 2008 on our domain controllers? is it like 2003 where you install an extra cd and that then makes its R2? If its similar with 2008 r2 that would be ideal. Thanks

Hello, you can upgrade from 2008 RTMto 2008 R2 RTMafterwards.http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=f2d08680-0875-44d3-bb5f-c5b05ac7201b#tmDepending on the needs you have to upgrade the schema to version 47, 2008 is 44. Therefore you find now adprep32.exe(32bit) and adprep.exe(64bit) on the installation disk.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd365353(WS.10).aspxBest regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
