server 2003
hi everyone, i just installed win 2k3 server with AD & DNS. now i want to install and configure DHCP, but i have a problem:i have an exisitng internal network with 192.168.1.x with a dhcp server (192.168.1.64-192.168.1.253) and it works just fine. my win2k3 server got a static ip 192.168.1.50my goal is to create a seperate dhcp server on 2k3 box without interfere the existing dhcp server. in other word: pc1,pc2, & pc3 should get ip from router's dhcp. ws1, ws2, & ws3 should get ip from 2k3 server's dhcp.i'm think about to get another NIC for 2k3 box and seperate two networks out.can anyone suggest how to setup two completely different networks for this?please follow the link below for the network diagram:http://www.ee.ucr.edu/~hiep/netdia.gifcan any expert here tell me if this is possible???thank you

Joe2010, Thank you so much for the diagram, completely helpful for understanding the problem. Luckily since DHCP uses UDP Broadcasts to request DHCP leases it cannot cross subnets. In large networks in order to connect to central DHCP servers we need to put entries for "IP Helper" entries pointing to the central DHCP server. Since NIC1 of the DHCP server is on the same subnet as the PC1, PC2, and PC3 network the DHCP server will receive the clients' DHCP requests. It can ONLY answer though if it has a scope configured on the subnet. If we do not configure a scope for the 192.168.1.x network then the DHCP cannot respond (or at least should not...). So, if we make sure that the the two networks to not overlap (i.e. -192.168.1.0/24 and 192.168.2.0/24) then this will work out well for you. One note here is that you do not need both the Router and the DHCP server if you do not want it. The router (if it is a managed device) should be able to handle more than one DHCP scope, and the DHCP server definitely can (we just need that IP helper entry on the router).
