request time out before sharing the folder in windows server 2008
Hello Team, I am trying to ping my server and getting Request time out. Then i shared the folder in the server and then i am getting reply from that server. Server: Windows Server 2008 R2. The windows firewall is ON.Exchange Queries

It was newly installed 2008 r2 OS ..no additional software or service installed on it...No change i ve done in the firewall too Exchange Queries

Hi, The issue you are experiencing is ICMP related. The recent responses you have are indeed correct to a degree, by enabling/disabling file and printer sharing, you essentially enable/disable a profile with multiple settings (not necessarily just file and print sharing) including various frameworks that are needed to operate. To achieve response from ping, you must launch firewall.cpl from command and navigate to settings, then ICMP and in there you want to enable "Allow Incoming Echo Request" The layout of firewall.cpl varies depending on OS, if you have problems finding it, please let me know and I can assist further.
