reinstalled PDC from acronis backup and now cannot add any new comps or clients
PDC went down and there was not another in domain. Made another server in that domain a DC and when I put the the primary back (from the backup) I get this message "The director service was unable to allocate a relative identifier" That's all the error I get. If you need more info please let me know. Server 2003

Hi, Please confirm if I get you right, You had only 1 DC and that went down? So you ended up with a domain without DC? So you create a new DC what means you created a new domain. Is this right? Or did you have more DC's and the DC with the FSMO roles went down and you seized the roles to another DC?Regards Ronny

I have 2 other servers (2000,2003)that are off site that replicate but have different ip address. Not sure how that effects replication. I also have another error message that states " The naming context is in the process of being removed or is not replicated from a specified server" The other 2 servers connect by VPN. THe second part of your reply may be more to the point.

if you have multiple DC's its not supported to just restore a DC with acronis. You get replication issues which only can be solved by demoting the server the server and promote it later. read here how you should recover a DC with acronis: http://dc-mirror.download.acronis.com/sl/Q44LGK90Wpz3NxtX1Xsp4cXWLnc2KmQDO9r6dtRBoVQ/p/pdf/wp/ActiveDirectoryABR10_whitepaper.en.pdfRegards Ronny

Thank you for the info. I had to call Microsoft tech support. They worked on it for 2 days. Since I just joined technet and they give you two free support calls. It paid for it self ten times over. Thank you again for you support and I will use it next time. Mike Donohue
