random network disconnection of windows 2008 r2 servers
We have windows 2008 r2 servers running on IBM x3200 m2 and recently we have been experiencing random network disconnection from these two servers. the servers becomes unreacheable when we try to ping it. the servers also cannot ping other servers. the network status doesn't seem to change. we tried disabling the network connection but the status doesn't seem to change. we also tried disconnecting the cable from the adapter but still the network status will not show that the cable is unplugged. it seems like it is in a suspended state. no hardware related events can be found on windows logs. network drivers seem to be ok. so we resort to restarting the servers to fix the problem. one server is our AD and the other is an exchange 2010 server. we are totally clueless on how to fix this problem. does anyone have any idea on how to fix this problem?

Hi, As you mentioned that you are using Windows Server 2008 R2, so I suspect that the issue may cause by the TCP offloading. The following post discussed the issue about TCP offloading, you can refer to: Hyper-V VM (Guest OS Win 2008) weird intermittent connection loss to Oracle database or unable to maintain steady connection to Oracle database http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/windowsserver2008r2virtualization/thread/0e9a6894-9b49-461c-a576-4de886d111bd By the way, you can refer to the following links to disable TCP Offloading. Using Registry Values to Enable and Disable Task Offloading http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa938424.aspx http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888750 In addition, you may try to add an extra NIC to the computer to test whether you get the same issue. Hi, Well both servers are actually Hyper-V Hosts. One server has two guest VM's. This server also has a network share dedicated for backups of other servers. We usually experience this weird disconnection when huge data is being passed on to this server. Suddenly all network connections to/from this server are just cut off. But we can't find any error on logs and the network becomes unresponsive (cannot be disabled). Both servers are IBM x-Series X3200 M2 with broadcom netxtreme gigabit ethernet NIC's.
