question on server 2008 search feature
hello, using server 2008 upon opening 'my computer', on the top right there is the search box. Upon typing into this box is just starts searching... no options given. You can click the 'advanced search' button which presents more options.... not the one I want though. you have to sit there and wait for it to fail to find anything before being presented with the option to search for the text within the contents of files... so hopefully, I'm just missing something here... how do I do a search for text within the contents of files, without first waiting for the stupid thing to fail searching for files with that filename?

Hi,As far as I know, the search option will only show up when typing something in Search Box and it will not be available by default. If you want to do a search for test within the contents of files, please try the following steps.1. In My Computer, click Tools->Folder Options...2. On the Search tab, please select the "Always search file names and contents" item.3. Click OK.Hope this helps.

thanks for the reply Miles, I appreciate it. A big 'booooooo', thumbs down to Microsoft on the search interface though... If I wanted all control taken away from me and no options I would use an Apple/Mac. But I don't, I want options and control, which is why I use a PC, and the most popular PC operating system, Windows (I also like various linux distros)... I admit I have not gotten into the real guts of vista/7, but from what I have seen I get the feeling they are trying to copy/mimic the Apple/OSX look and feel and I don't like it. Stay true to yourselves and PC's Microsoft, screw the trendy B.S. Such a basic and required feature of the OS, searching.. give an input box, give all the options right there for per search selection, and done. Fine, even have that 'search' tab where you could save your settings so they would default that way, but still give opportunity to set options per search. don't get me wrong, I still love Windows (and Microsoft for that matter), but I'm not happy about this one! Yes, more options mean more complicated, good, I'm not an idiot, I can handle it.
