problems setting up a KMS server
HI All I’m trying to setup a KMS server on a 2008R2 server. I want the KMS server to activate my windows 7 Enterprise editions. However when i enter the following command: C:\Windows\System32>cscript slmgr.vbs /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX (X replacing my real keys) I keep getting the following errors: Microsoft (R) Windows Script Host Version 5.8 Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. On a computer running Microsoft Windows non-core edition, run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0xC 004F015' to display the error text. Error: 0xC004F015 Any ideas Many thanks in advance Chris

1. What are you doing? Do you want to activate your server? 2. If you want to activate your client against KMS server, use the folowing: · cscript c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs -skms mykms.domain.com · cscript c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs -ato 3. Follow the advice and report here your finding: slui.exe 0x2a 0xC004F015 This is the path to the error description. Run it with elevated rights. 4. For troubleshooting follow the advice of Shinmila H - Microsoft Support Please check the following threads that talk about the same error code with KMS server installation. There are multiple suggestions that worked. See which one helps you in getting the issue fixed. Hello Chris, Are you entering a Windows Server 2008 R2 KMS host key? It sounds like you are entering a Windows 7 KMS host key, the Windows KMS host uses the same key to activate the underlying OS so a KMS host key needs to be a Windows Server 2008 R2 key, that key will also allow Windows 7 KMS clients to activate against the same KMS host. The Windows 7 KMS host key is use if you want a Windows 7 machine to be your KMS host. Thanks, Darrell Gorter [MSFT] This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. HI All, Thank you for your responses already Ok so I done the following so far 1. Downloaded the KMS licence keys for the products I wish the activate via KMS server 2008R2, Windows 7 and office 2010 2. I then ran the command (C:\Windows\System32>script slmgr.vbs /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX (X replacing my real keys)) 3. I then got the error messages on a computer running Microsoft Windows non-core edition, run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0xC 004F015' to display the error text. Error: 0xC004F015 4. Have I missed some steps out? Many thanks in advance Chris

thank you for your reply i will check the class of the KMS key that i am trying to use. I am confused about this statement in that thread "Bear in mind that you can install only one KMS key per KMS server" i was told that i could use 1 KMS server to support all my activations ? many thanks Chris

Yes, you can use 1 KMS server to do all your activations, but, you only install 1 Windows KMS product key to do this. If you want to activate Windows (clients and servers), then your KMS host needs to be running Windows server. The KMS product key to use in this case would be any 1 of KMS "A" or "B" or "C" (3 different types of key you get from MS VLSC). http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff793411.aspx If you also want to use the same KMS host to do Office2010 activations, you can, but you need to install the Office2010 KMShostlicensepack, and then add your Office2010 KMShost product key. You can only add 1 Windows KMS product key on the KMS host, and, this replaces the current product key of the KMS host server. Don

Yes, there are activation thresholds (minimum activation requests) which must be met before requests will be issued an activation. If you don't have enough clients/requests to meet the minimum, clients will just keep checking back to the KMS host. The minimums vary depending on product, server products are 5, windowsclient (Vista/7) is 25, Office is 5.Don
