monitoring oracle DB on Linux server
Hi, I am trying to monitor a oracle DB with scom2012. I find a lot of infromation but not any step by step instruction. I have created a run as account that has permission on the oracle database. I have created a OleDB provicer but it does not work. Is it neccessary to install a agent in the server that the oracle database is running on?

thanx! but I don not need to monitor the Linux server. I just want to configure SCOM to monitor the connectivity to the Oracle database via a port using OLEDB. Under the following link that you sent to me

http://www.maartendamen.com/2010/09/monitor-an-oracle-database-with-a-scom-oledb-watcher/

It says: "Install Oracle client OleDB provider on the watcher node". I wonder what it means with whatch node? It says: "The watcher node can be any machine containing the SCOM agent". Should I install both the scom agent and the oracle client on the Linux server where the oracle database is placed on? Or can I install the oracle client on any windows server that has a scom agent?

I am a little bit confused about this. I apriciate a detailed description that can be help for me because I am very begineer in scom.

You just need to install OLEDB provider on agent which will initiate connection to your oracle DB.

Let me explain which machines I have. I have the oracle database on a Linux server. And I haver the SCOM012 environment. I don have monitoring for the Linux servers in my SCOM environment. How do you mean by "install OLEDB provider on agent which will initiate connection to your oracle DB"? Which machine is the agent in my case? Should I have a windows machine that has the scom agent and install the oledb provider on that machine?

Yes, yo don't need have agent on linux, you can install DB provider on any windows computer which have OpsMgr agent and assign as watcher this computer.
