memory dump file location
Hi Team, Just have one query. Windows 2003 Server has thrown the memory dump and was rebooted manually but memory.dmp file was not generated I had also seen the event log but did not found any events for source " SAVE DUMP" I checked out the setting and found page file set to 4GB with complete memory dump enable (also check the registry vaule seems to be correct) but found dump file location to D:\MEMORY.DMP. Now my question is my os is installed on drive C: and memory dump file location is set to D:, this would create the memory dump file or not i got one article inthat it is mention that in windows 2003 file location should be set to OS partition only. http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2008/01/08/understanding-crash-dump-files.aspx Please help me i need to update this is to my client i wnat to client to reloacte the dump file location from D: to system root Please let me know if any Thanks in advance Ahmed Gaziyani Enterprise Admin.

Did you see the article, don't worry about OS version. What to consider when you configure a new location for memory dump files in Windows Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886429 I think it can be changed in windows 2008 above. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/254649 http://support.microsoft.com/?id=969028 Regards Awinish Vishwakarma| CHECK MY BLOG Disclaimer: This posting is provided AS-IS with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights.

Hello, Note that this is Directory Services forum and your question is not related to AD problems. By default, when a crash occur, a minidump is created under %systemroot%\minidumps like c:\windows\minidumps. If your system is configured to generate a full dump then MEMORY.DMP file will be created under %systemroot%\. I don't see a problem by chaging the location of dump files. For debugging dump files using Windbg, refer to this Microsoft article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315263 This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.
