Hello,
it sounds that you have a domain installed and the machine you use is NOT added to the domain if only the machine name is shown in the drop-down menu. So please describe in detail about your setup from the server and the domain controller.Best regards

hi meinolf

my domain is mycompany.com and my server name xxx

user all add on mycompany.com , they using erp software they using outlook all is working fine past 3 years but when logon on to domain is showing server xxx instead of netbios name mycompany .
xxx server was domain controller so we added additional domain controller and we transfer all fsmo roles and global gatalog server in that .but still if xxx goes down all user not able to login on domain .

is the new installed DC also DNS server and have you made it GC also?
Please post an unedited ipconfig /all from the old/new DC and also a client with poblems.
Did you alsoreconfigure the time service after transfer from the FSMO roles? Details are in

beside from using the servers direct in the internet with public ips, or is this not connected, ipconfig seems to be ok IF you do NOT have enabled RRAS on them. What about the client ipconfig?Best regards

if the server show the name it seems for me that you have run dcpromo on it and demoted it to member server or even removed it to workgroup.Best regards

Can you see your NetBIOS name in the Log on to drop-down menu?

If not, I would agree with Meinolf Weber that your DC can be demoted.

If so, you may need to run DCpromo again to promote this server to DC again. For more information, please refer to the following Microsoft TechNet article:

how i can demoted ? all other server depending on this server. i tested showdown this server , dns resolve not happening . so i make it up again ..
