locking out all users but folder owner
Help:)I have the task of being the local "IT"guy in the office, the problem is we have server2008 and all the users appx 20 have there own folders. However it has just been found out that all of the users can browse each others files. We have one user who has all of the super secret docslike payroll who makes what etc in her folder, ANd anyone could have a look and as you know that would be oh so very bad.Ok on to the problem So I ASSUME all i have to do is right click on the folder and go to properties go to the security tab. I then have under groups or user names: creator owner. System. administrators. users. All i want to do is not allow the users to access either her "home"folder or even just a single folder in her home folder. When i have the users highlighted under permissions all is lightly checked except special permissionsSo i next ASSUME i highlight users and check deny on all of the same options.I started to do this and got amessage about if being in two groups that it would deny all? I dont want that just to deny from this one folder!Anyone able to help me please?Thank you I will be watching all eve.

You should explicitly give permission for each user on his folder and remove references to other users or groups inheriting permissions to the user folder. Right-click on the folder, click Security, click Advanced, click Edit, uncheck "Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent", choose "Copy", click OK. You can then remove the users/groups not requiring access to the folder (without explicitly denying permission for the users/groups). Here are a couple of Technet articles that should provide you with good guidance in implementing NTFS permissions:NTFS Permissions: Part 1http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc160775.aspxNTFS Permissions: Part 2http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc161041.aspxRegards,Salvador Manaois IIIMCITP|Server/Enterprise AdminC|EH MCSE MCSA MCTS CIWABytes & Badz : http://badzmanaois.blogspot.com
