ipconfig /registerdns not working
hello, one of the windows 7 client pc is not registring in DNS; the error i get is: C:\Windows\system32>ipconfig /registerdns Windows IP Configuration Registration of DNS records failed: Not enough storage is available to complete this operation. no error/ information message is logged in system log; thanks.

Do this try once and follow the below command sequence in CMD prompt. 1. ipconfig/release 2. ipconfig/flushdns 3. ipconfig/renew 4. ipconfig/registerdns. Note: Run above command using domain admin credentials for better results.Regards, Ravikumar P

@exrapul - we have 1000+ client computers that are working just fine; i don't want to make the record myself; @exrapul - this computer has a static ip configuration - so release - renew will not be usefull; @Mr X - i allready run into that thread but the solution is not for me since our group policy os working fine for 99.99 of the client computers;

Hi octavmarius One thing you could try is enabling the DNS Client Event Operational Log to see if it give you any more detail as to why the registeration is failing. In event viewer if you expand Applicaitons adn Services Logs --> Microsoft --> Windows --> DNS Client Event --> Right Click the Operational Logs and select enable, now repro the problem and see if you get any errors in the log. Here is my solution to register client PC name in DNS . Though the computer having static IP, DNS entry should be there in DNS console. So, search for the host name and delete it from DNS cosole and reboot PC. It will automatically create DNS entry in DNS console. Regards, Ravikumar P
