incorrect function
Recently reinstalled Win 2k and now when I try to access a data CD I get an "incorrect function" message. Factory CDs for installing programs work fine. Just data CDS written on another PC. Have 2 burners and have same problem on each. Any suggestions?

Hello Geno1224,As you stated "Factory CDs for installing programs work fine", this problem may occur if the CD recording program from Roxio Easy CD Creator is installed on the computer, and if the version of the CD recording program is incompatible with Windows 2000.To resolve this issue, I would suggest you contact CD burnersoftware company to upgrade to a new version that is supported in Windows 2000.You can refer to this KB article 315350:Error message when you access the CD drive or DVD drive after you upgrade to Windows XP: "Incorrect function"http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;315350For information about how to contact Roxio, click the appropriate article number in the following list to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Hello Wilson JiaLooked at the KB articles but found them not relevant as I have no burning software installed. Did a clean install of Win 2k Pro and everything is fine except for the "incorrecct function" issue when trying to read a data disk, The files were written to disk with an XP machine, could this be the problem? Thanks for any insight into this.Best to you, Geno1224

Hello Geno,Thank you for your response. As Windows XP does not include any burning software (Except OEM software pre-installed), what Burning software you used to burn these CDs?Please try the following steps to narrow down this issue. Can Win 2k pro machine read other factory DATA disk? (ie: DELL drivers CD)Is the burning CD readable on other (Read-Only CD-ROM)computers?If it's working. How about swap the CD-ROM from that computer to Win2k Pro computer? Does it Work?Best regards,Wilson JiaThis posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
