how much RAM for proxy server?
How many users do you think a proxy server could support with 2Gb RAM? Users would mainly be running video through the proxy. Would a dedicated server be better or could a virtual server support this. ...something like a 2GHz core 2 duo. I also have 1Gb RAM choices available with Athlon 3880+ 2x2GHz. The internet connection seems to be 100MBit so should be plenty for video but even the data centre must get some bottlenecks? As a proxy server, I doubt it will need that much disk space available?

Either CCProxy or ISA. What is better? More importantly, I need a free one but one that logs everything. The line is a 100MBit line so could support lots of users running video but I presume their will be a bottleneck at some point.

Hello, don't know about CCProxy, but ISA is not free.See here about minimum hardware for ISA:http://www.microsoft.com/forefront/edgesecurity/isaserver/en/us/system-requirements.aspxA free proxy server is SQUID but don't know about limits, check:http://www.squid-cache.org/Best regards

Squid looks more like an internet cache with HDD storage than a proxy that just relays requests. I'm just wondering if 1Gb RAM is enough to support say a hundred users or if more would be better. I mean ISA recommends 512Mb RAM but I doubt that's enough.

Hello,it's the minimum as stated in the article. But you have 2 GB so this is at least a good starting point, the server does nothing else. Faster NICs should be more the part to think about, in my opinion. Some years ago i run MS proxy 2, really old, with 256 MB RAM forca. 150 users and it works ok.Best regards

I'm just wondering whether to use 1Gb instead as it might be enough and is cheaper on the monthly rental. I assume MS proxy has been surpassed by ISA now?

Hello,ISA includes a proxy server. MS proxy is not longer available, if you mean that. But i suggest you ask in, there you should get more information about hardware:http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.isaserverBest regards

Is ISA included with Windows server 2003 or is it separate?
July 27th, 2009 11:59pm
Hello,it is separate. Except you have 2003 SBSPremium version, that include ISA server 2004.Best regards
