how do i create an AD test environment

Windows Server 2008 R2

i have a need to test some Oracle application that requires doing it in an isolated test environment with Active Directory. do i

  1. create a BDC
  2. create a 192.168.1.xx VLAN
  3. place the BDC in the 192.168.1.x VLAN
  4. promote the BDC as PDC
  5. and do the test as if it's my live AD?

Hi

Point is you could configure this test AD environment on isolated platform.ALso i recommned that will do clean installation of Server OS.Then configure domain (PDC,same name with your domain),And you could export ldif from your current AD then import AD Object to your test AD.

Check for ldif export&import

hi,

i just want a copy of my AD as is. i don't want to start from scratch as i might miss something that were added to my AD. my issue here is the consultant were already provided a test domain user to read the LDAP hierarchy but they are insisting a write access too which i am hesitant to provide.

Hi

So you don't need to create a test domain for that, you just create&set delegated user (for this test domain user),and give necessarry permission on necessarry OU,sub OU,etc..

Check this
