hotifx in KB958661
Does this apply only to Windows 2008 pre-R2 installations only or do Windows 2008 R2 installs need it as well? Is this hotifx part of SP1 or SP2? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958661 Thanks, Keith

this would not apply to 2008 R2 because it uses IIS 7.5MCSE | MCITP - Server 2008, Exchange 2007, Exchange 2010

KB958661: FIX: Small memory leaks may occur when you use RSCA to query runtime statistics in IIS 7.0 Symptoms: When you are using the Runtime Status Control API (RSCA) to query runtime statistics for monitoring the health of Internet Information Server (IIS) 7.0, small memory leaks occur in your application. I don't see that this can be applied on Windows Server 2008 R2. If you have a problem with IIS then post in http://forums.iis.net/ forums. It applies to Windows 2008 with IIS installed, but I wanted to confirm that it does not apply to R2. The second question is, is if it is included with SP1 or SP2 Windows 2008.

to answer your second question open IIS and look at the version. If it is not IIS 7 it doesn't apply. MCSE | MCITP - Server 2008, Exchange 2007, Exchange 2010

HeretoHelp, thanks, but not really the answer to my second question. Is hotfix 958661 a part of SP1 or SP2?

Thanks Mr X. Now do you know if I need to apply this hotfix to a Windows 2008 Server that is R2 edition, running IIS 7, that does not have SP2? The KB article does not mention R2, but it just says Windows 2008. I need clarification of the KB article that this would mention R2 if it applied to R2 and not just Windows 2008.

Hello, please note that Windows Server 2008 R2 is not an update of Windows Server 2008. What is mentioned in the KB is that the hotfix is applied on Windows Server 2008 so it does not apply on WIndows Server 2008 R2. The hotfix does not apply on your Windows Server 2008 R2. For a Windows Server 2008 R2 server, install SP1 to make it up-to-date. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.
