home drive not available offline
hi there, We are using win2008r2 servers for AD and file services. In active directory each user is configured to have the h: drive mapped to their home folder on the server. The problem we are having is that when users take their laptops out of the office they do not have access to their home folders. When they make a VPN connection to the office they can access all other network drives except the h: drive. I was wondering what is the best way to address this - offline files? I was wondering how people would recommend setting this up? Much appreciated, Al

We dont know how your H: drive is shared is it shared with ip address or the host name ? when you click on the h: drive what error it gives ? Here is the procedure for setting it up offline files and folders http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900701 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312171http://www.virmansec.com/blogs/skhairuddin

Hi Al, It sounds like your DNS is not carrying over the VPN. (1) Check that when your VPN issues an IP address to the remote host, that one of the DNS (preferrably Primary) is the IP of your server or internal DNS (2) On the remote host, instead of mapping the share as \\hostname\share try mapping as the host ip e.g. (\\192.168.x.x\share) If point 2 works then it is a matter of DNS setup and you will need to investigate the VPN DHCP client and try force it to use your internal DNS server Martin
