folder rights
Hello
I was hoping to create a new folder structure for a users. but i would also be a template, so the user should be able to copy the root folder and then paste. after that rename to match their client name. each subfolder has rights assigned to them but the
copy and paste on a windows 2003 server same drive REMOVES the rights I assigned.
I was hoping to let the user copy and paste without my help, depending on how many clients he has/needs.

I don't think you'll be able to do this using a simple copy paste.
you have 2 options really.
1. make sure you have a structure in place already that child directories will be inheriting the right permissions through, if you need to lock down a folder more, don't place it within the other folders separate it.
this way as more folders are created they inherit permission from the parent folders as locked down as the parent folders are without complicating things.
outside of that you'll have to go with option 2.
2. 3rd party solution.
I've personally used robocopy when doing server migrations, this allowed me to keep all the permissions using the flags specified in robocopy, it's not end user friendly at all though so.. if you're users need to do this they would have to find
something else, but really option #1 is what you want to achieve, anything else will complicate things and throw more issues on your plate.
let me know if that all makes sense.
Thanks!
