I am looking for a software solution that would allow users to access files from anywhere with internet access. I was looking at sharepoint server which appears to do kind of what I am looking for. Any suggestions would be apprechated.

(Though a firewall is needed in the wild Internet environment.) - Web server provides similar aim, but there is inherit limit (2GB) - VPN and file server role - RDP via SSL - file and/or terminal server role (remote services to be precise) If resources are scarce, the you can use OpenVPN. In this case refere to appropriate open source forum.
