event id 4013
The DNS server is waiting for Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) to signal that the initial synchronization of the directory has been completed. The DNS server service cannot start until the initial synchronization is complete because critical DNS data might not yet be replicated onto this domain controller. If events in the AD DS event log indicate that there is a problem with DNS name resolution, consider adding the IP address of another DNS server for this domain to the DNS server list in the Internet Protocol properties of this computer. This event will be logged every two minutes until AD DS has signaled that the initial synchronization has successfully completed. Hi everybody, i am trying to figure out how to fix this warning. Before i post on the forum i tried to fix it on my own. But no success. Before on my Preferred DNS: i had this loopback 127.0.0.1 and now i changed it to actual ip. 192.168.1.4 (example), but is still keep showing me this warning after i restart the server. I am a newbie, :( Any help will be apreciated willockss

yes Start and Stop but no warning 4013, it appears only when i restart the server willockss I would reiterate what Meinolf Weber suggested in this thread. is that the only DNS server in the domain and do you use AD integrated zones? Then what you see is expected. As the event states: The DNS server was unable to open the Active Directory. This DNS server is configured to use directory service information and cannot operate without access to the directory. The DNS server will wait for the directory to start. If the DNS server is started but the appropriate event has not been logged, then the DNS server is still waiting for the directory to start. AD relies on DNS to start with the netlogon service. But this one relies on running DNS which is AD integrated....... Got it? Chicken or egg? AD require DNS, DNS run only iof AD is started. Install a second DNS server for the domain and configure it as preferred on the DCs NIC, that way DNS for the domain is running and AD can start. Additional it is recommended to have a t least 2 DC/DNS/GC per domain. Press any key... What the ... Where's any key ? Thank you, willockss To get rid of the 4013 warning, you need to install a second DNS :-). Sorry, I don't have any example to show case in that regard. However, if you would like to know how to setup a second DNS server, here are couple of links Adding a Secondary DNS Server http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc776953(v=ws.10).aspx How to create a secondary DNS server http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winservergen/thread/a0335c80-f0ee-4b42-9f5d-a8e4aa32e3d1/Press any key... I had read from those links that you gave me, that one with integrating the AD to DNS in windows server 2008 r2 is default made integrated (there it shows only for windows server 2000) as about that secondary DNS, i am afraid i will not try because it seems something dangerous. So until i will not have an clear example so i can understand, i will not install :(willockss
