default gateway metric keeps precedence over added static route on windows server 2008 hyper - v vm

this only happens to a vm in hyper v

add a static route with metric 1 but the active route stays below the default gateway

basically the metric is ignored and the default is used

any suggestions?

Hi rudif,

Based on my understanding , the default route entry means the packet will be sent to gateway through the specific interface when there is no route entry to indicate where the packet can be sent out  .

So , if it is possible please post the route table via running command " route print " .

hi,

problem was resolved.  Thanks for taking the time to reply.

The route was wrong and I was thrown off by the different behavior of the hyper-v VMs choosing an active  metric.

The default is higher but the route is more specific so it doesn't matter.

My other servers actually changed the active metric to be higher for the specific route.
