creating roaming profiles in a server 2003 domain NOT using netlogon
I want to create a roaming profile in a domain. I don't want to use the netlogon share. I have followed the many documents regarding this procedure, and it doesn't seem to work. Here's what I've done: XP box > Log on as local admin > create user account TemplateUser1 > log on as TemplateUser1 > add a Company Policy.txt file to desktop > Log in as local admin > copy profile via system properties >advan. . . > save to \\servername\profiles\username > change permissions for access by TemplateUser1. All is good so far. I log in to domain as TemplateUser1 and CompanyPolicy.txt is there. Here's is the problem: I copy (on the DC) the user TemplateUser1 with profile as \\servername\proifles\%username%, and end up with the default profile from the XP box. Why? I am expecting the use of a profile from a template user. I want several different template users, and this is not working. I have policies working (DNS is fine) > no run for some users. I gave F/C share and NTFS to the profiles location > g:\users\profiles. Profiles is NOT inheriting permissions. Any ideas. Sorry for the long story, but I wanted to head off as many probing questions that lead to nothing. Thanks Ross

Meinolf Weber, this is one of the many step by step procedures I've followed. It doesn't work. Each new user ends up with the default profile from the XP box if I follow this ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316353 ) process. I've tried it. Any other ideas are appreciated.

Hi, I suggest you try the steps below to create user roaming profile: 1.Follow the suggestions below to enable roaming profile and configure folder permission: Automatic creation of user folders for home, roaming profile and redirected foldershttp://blogs.technet.com/askds/archive/2008/06/30/automatic-creation-of-user-folders-for-home-roaming-profile-and-redirected-folders.aspx 2.Copy CompanyPolicy.txt file to all profile folders, open CMD, navigate to the parent folder of profile folders, copy CompanyPolicy.txt to this folder, run the command below: for /d %i in (*) do @copy CompanyPolicy.txt %i Repeat to copy other files to profile folders.
