creating domain alias

Dear Server Expert,

currently i am using windows 2008 server R2 enterprise. the dns is installed in this server. We have 2 database server called "DatabaseA" and "DatabaseB" server. both of this server has been joined to the same domain called "test.com. meaning, the hostname wil be databaseA.test.com and databaseB.test.com. Currently, the databaseA.test.com is down and we need time for servicing. User clients are actually pointing to databaseA.test.com to access the database. is it possible for me to create domain alias that point databaseA.test.com to databaseB.test.com, thus i don't require to reconfigure all the clients setting per users?

If yes, how should i go about it?

Thanks.

Regards,

H

Hi Henry,

We could edit the Host record of databaseA or add Alias.

Host record:

We could configure the Host record with the IP address of databaseB. Then databaseA.test.com would be resolved to the IP address of databaseB.

Alias:

We need to delete the Host record of databaseA first. Then, we could add an Alias pointing to databaseB.test.com.

Here is the reference for DNS records:
