connection problem between child and parent domain
I have a question about connection between parent domain and child domain. Somehow, my parent domain can’t connect my child domain. My child domain can connect to my parent domain but doesn’t have permission to modify anything. There is no problem during the installation. My parent domain is Windows Server 2008. My child domain server is Windows Server 2003. There is no connection problem. Two servers can ping each other. I later realized that I couldn’t make my Windows Server 2003 authoritative. Any suggestion or idea will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Superxbobx, > Somehow, my parent domain can’t connect my child domain. How do you connect your child domain? by GPMC, ADUC or other? Did you get error message? >My child domain can connect to my parent domain but doesn’t have permission to modify anything. Does the credential is member of enterprise admins? Hi, Brent's question makes sense. We should be clear how do you connect to you child partition and what the previlege that you use to connect. Through active directory domains and trusts, my child domain can gain access of my parent domain’s ADUC; however, I can’t modify anything. I can’t add any user to enterprise admins group from my parent domain because I can’t manage my child domain site. I got the follow error when I tried to manage my child domain’s ADUC: “Name information cannot be located for the following reason: The server is not operational.” I checked my parent domain’s DNS log and found out why this occurred. Zone transfer failed. After reloaded, everything is fine now. PS: I am using VMware for my child domain. Maybe that’s why such error occurred. Many thx to Brent Hu and Scorpio_Milo for helping.
