configuring snmp traps?
hello,
for window server (2003/2008/2008R2), I know there is native snmp support, and when installed there are two snmp related services that get installed and run... within services.msc I see where you configure community strings so that the system can be 'polled'
by an snmp management system, but what if I want to configure local snmp 'traps' on a windows server? Again, I see where to tell the trap service a server ip to send traps to, but how/where do I configure the actual traps I want? is that supported natively
or do I need to install a third party agent? From my current understanding, a trap is something configured and triggered locally (initiated by the client), when triggered, the info is sent from client to snmp management system, in contrast, polling is something
initiated by the snmp management system, where it asks clients for info. What I'm trying to find out how to do, is the snmp trap scenario.
