clients on server 2008
HelloAm a new user of server 2008 and have just installed it on one machine. I have 8 machines i want to connect to the server. Am running on a closed network with a single internet gateway. It does not want to see the machines or does not want to recognize the machine names or add any servers. Would really appreciate it if someone could tell me what I am doing wrong. All of the machines are running windows xp professional except one is running vista home basic and of course the server is 2008 standard. Thanks

Hi,I think we need more information. Are you running in a domain or a workgroup. This will determine where you want to look and proceed forward. If you are in a domian, all the XP machines will be able to join the domain. If you are running in a work group, make sure all the computers are part of the same work group, and make sure you have the same user accounts with the same passwords on each computer. From an admin standpoint, the domain is easier in user account respects, as one account will log into every computer. The Vista basic computer does not have the capability to join the domain. Also, make sure you have shared folders. This is what the client computers will see. Again, depending on if you are in a domain or workgroup will determine how easy it is for each computer to share the information.I hope this helps.Scotty
