change subnet on domain controller
I just installed a brand new stand alone domain controller. I installed active directory wirth DNS. The IP address scheme is 10.1.0.10/16. I would like to change the subnet mask to 10.1.0.10/24. Can I do this without having to make any other changes in DNS, etc. NOthing else is setup on the network yet. It is just a stand alone windows 2008 server at this point. Networking on LAN will work properly with the 255.255.255.0 mask it is just a matter of if it affects anything on my server setup else I can rebuild.

Hello, there is no problem to change the subnet mask. To be sure with DNS after the change run ipconfig /flsuhdns and ipconfig /registerdns and restart the netlogon service or reboot.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Hi, Thank you for your post here. You may follow the steps to change the IP address on the domain controller. Change the static IP address of a domain controller http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc758579(WS.10).aspx

Changing the subnet mask will have no affect on the server based on the your description. You do not have to reinstall the OS or modify any of the current roles. The main purpopse of the subnet mask is for the computer to determine how to treat outgoing network traffic from that computer.
