Thanks. So how would i Upgrade from Windows Server 2003/2003 R2 to Windows Storage Server 2008? I have the upgrade files but they are only .msu files and i was under the impression that only wusa.exe can help install these types of files. Is an upgrade even possible or will it need to be a clean install? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I would like to confirm that what are the .msu files and where did you get them? If you purchase the upgrade edition with .msu files, please contact your vendor for how to use them to upgrade to Windows Server 2008. We recommend a clean installation of Windows Server 2008 whenever possible. If you decide that you want to upgrade to Windows Server 2008 instead of using a clean installation, you may upgrade to Windows Server 2008 Datacenter from Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise and Datacenter editions. For the detailed information, please read the following Microsoft TechNet article: Guide for Upgrading to Windows Server 2008 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc755199(WS.10).aspx When upgrading to Windows Server 2008, in the "Which type of installation do you want?" window, click the option – Upgrade. For the detailed steps of how to upgrade to Windows Server 2008 from the Windows Server 2008 installation media, please refer to the following article: How to Install Windows Server 2008 Step by Step http://www.petri.co.il/how-to-install-windows-server-2008-step-by-step.htm Note: Since the web site is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Thanks for the info Arthur. I downloaded the files from Technet Subscriptions website. It was an ISO for Windows Storage Server 2008. Within the ISO are the .msu files. Should this disc be a bootable one? Can i clean install Stoagre Server 2008 instead of upgrading?

Hi, The Windows Server 2008 R2 installation file is much larger than 947 MB. This ISO image includes Microsoft iSCSI Target 3.3, Language Packs and OS Updates for Windows Storage Server 2008 R2. You must first install Windows Server 2008 R2 before installing this product. For more information, please refer to the following Microsoft TechNet article: Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 and the Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3 are available on MSDN/TechNet - here's how to install them http://blogs.technet.com/b/josebda/archive/2010/09/27/windows-storage-server-2008-r2-and-the-microsoft-iscsi-software-target-3-3-are-available-on-msdn-technet-here-s-how-to-install-them.aspx Regards, Arthur Li TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com.Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
