cannot disable password protected sharing
Hello Experts,
here is my setup
1 windows 2008 std edition - member server
issue : unable to turn off password protected sharing, it does nothing when i try to disable.
I have enabled UAC , so everytime i try disable , it prompts for credentials, i give admin priviliges , no affect.
troubleshooting so far :
- tested with different user accounts - no luck
- ran procmon to identify the dll or keys , no error
- followed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947232 - no luck
- made sure that browser , server, workstation service are started and restable - no luck
- checked the local system policies , i dont see any suspicious policy being set.
i am wondering how to troubleshoot this problem, please assist

Hello BitMask,
Could you please perform a trial as domain admin?
I also can remember a similar problem (in a workgroup environment). It was resolved after removing the guest account’s passwords.

Hello Harry ,
thank you for the inputs,
i disabled guest account , but no luck . This is a member server not added to domain.
So as per my knowledge disabling the account / deleting the guest account password should be same right.
I tested this on another windows server 2008 in workgroup - it works , so i took procmon dump will analyze it today.
strange thing is this queries - power policies ( checked on both working and non working ) which actually make me to think hard.
so any inputs will be grately appreciated.
